Narsad Affiliation: YI 2002, YI 2005

Focus: PTSD

Francis S. Lee, M.D., Ph.D., of Weill Cornell Medical College in New York, still thinks about the terrorist attacks of September 11, 2001. At the outpatient psychiatry clinic, he sees a small handful of patients suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder, or PTSD, caused by the strikes on New York. Working with these patients so many years after the fact, Dr. Lee realizes there is a problem with their pharmacological treatment. “The fact that we are still treating their PTSD symptoms tells you the drugs aren’t all that we want them to be,” he says. “We don’t understand why some people don’t respond.”
