Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder

An Example of a NARSAD Breakthrough Treatment on Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder:

NARSAD support in the early 2000s has led to FDA approval for Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS) for treatment-resistant Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD).  The Independent Investigator grant to Benjamin D. Greenberg, MD PhD, Associate Professor at Brown Medical School and colleagues catalyzed the effort that ultimately led to FDA approval and has also led to further NIMH-funded clinical trials of DBS for OCD.  The team was granted a Conte Center award in September 2009 for their efforts – and importantly, expects the insights from their extensive work to go beyond OCD to define better treatments for other brain disorders.
