Edwin H. Cook, M.D.
Professor of Psychiatry
Institute for Juvenile Research
Department of Psychiatry
University of Illinois at Chicago

Dr. Cook and his group are engaged in clinical and translational research in child-onset neuropsychiatric disorders, including autism, obsessive-compulsive disorder, attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, bipolar mood disorder and stuttering. Their current areas of emphasis are studies of molecular genetics, clinical pharmacology and pharmacogenetics. Currently, Dr. Cook is the principal investigator in a study of the molecular and family genetics of autism and Asperger’s syndrome in which participants come from families that have more than one child with an autism spectrum disorder.

Dr. Cook moved to the Institute for Juvenile Research (IJR) in 2005 from the University of Chicago, where he had been on the faculty since 1986. Founded nearly a century ago, IJR was the first child guidance clinic in the United States and instituted one of the earliest child psychology training programs.

Dr. Cook joined NARSAD’s Scientific Council in 2003.
