Goodwin, M.D. Research Professor of Psychiatry Director, Psychopharmacology Research Center George Washington University Director, Center on Neuroscience, Medical Progress and Society George Washington University Medical Center Dr. Goodwin’s career has encompassed several different areas of influence. He has conducted seminal research on bipolar disorder; he has served as Director of the National Institute of Mental Health and as head of the Alcohol, Drug Abuse and Mental Health Administration; and he has hosted the popular science education radio program “The Infinite Mind.” In his post as Director of the Center on Neuroscience, Medical Progress and Society at George Washing-ton University, Dr. Goodwin leads studies on the impact of changing patterns of health care on quality and innovation in medicine, while continuing his research on depression. He is a co-author of “Manic-Depressive Illness,” the first psychiatric text to win the best medical book award from the Association of American Publishers. Dr. Goodwin has been a member of NARSAD’s Scientific Council since its inception in 1986. He received NARSAD’s Falcone Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Affective Disorders Research in 1999. |
