Dear Friend,

Thank you for your interest in NARSAD’s Healthy Minds Across America campaign.

In September, we will launch this five-year campaign to raise $200 million in support of increased mental health research, and we invite your participation. Whether you can help a lot or a little, we need everyone’s involvement because research is the key to conquering mental illness.

Never has there been a more opportune or crucial moment for this effort. Over the last two decades – thanks to the generosity and commitment of people like you – NARSAD has helped to accelerate progress in research on psychiatric disorders.

Through investing in cutting-edge studies and new scientific talent, and by taking advantage of emerging technologies in brain research, NARSAD has played an integral part in improving diagnostic capabilities, early intervention techniques and treatments for serious mental illnesses that affect nearly 60 million Americans.

We have much farther to go. The brain is by far our most complex organ, and we have much more to learn about how it functions in both health and in disease, how disease begins and progresses, and how mental illnesses can be better treated -- or even prevented or cured. One day, we will have the answers to diseases such as depression, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, anxiety, OCD, PTSD, childhood mental disorders and many other conditions, which cause untold suffering and loss.

NARSAD is committed to continually increasing research on these disorders until they are contained. Unfortunately, federal funding for our government research agency, the National Institute of Mental Health, has remained flat for several years and has no prospect of increasing in the near future. If the pace of discovery that we have witnessed over the past two decades is to continue, we must increase private support of research. That’s where NARSAD can make a vital difference.

Please join us in this important goal to increase funding available for research, and consider making a donation today. And be sure to attend one of our Healthy Minds Across America free public forums on the progress and promise of research, taking place in 48 locations across the U.S. and in Canada on Sunday, Sept. 14.

Our heartfelt thanks for your interest and support,
