Research Partner Program

EmailPrint
Begun in 1990, the Research Partners Program has supported over one-quarter of all the awards given by NARSAD since 1987.

The NARSAD Research Partners Program brings the donor and the scientist together by offering donors an opportunity to designate a major gift to a NARSAD scientist/s conducting research in a particular area of interest, geographical location or specific institution. Subsequently, the investigator's grant is named in honor of the donor or as a memorial tribute. This unique program gives the donor and the scientist each the benefit of the other's intense motivation to find better treatments and cures for severe psychiatric illnesses.

As a Research Partner, you will receive progress and final reports from your scientist and will be given honorary mention in all published work resulting from the research you sponsored. You may wish to visit your scientist in the laboratory or correspond via e-mail. We encourage you to develop a connection with your sponsored scientist which will afford you an extraordinary opportunity to witness the impact your personal contribution has made as NARSAD scientists continue to seek the causes, better treatments and cures for severe brain disorders.

» Partner Programs
• Young Investigator Award:
A gift of $30,000 will encourage and facilitate the highly promising project of a gifted scientist at the onset of his/her career. Often, these researchers are involved in groundbreaking pilot projects which subsequently lead to larger federal grants allowing for continued investigation.

• Independent Investigator Award:
A gift of $50,000 will provide critical support for a mid-level scientist as they start independent research and search for ways to achieve sustained funding.

• Distinguished Investigator Award:
A gift of $100,000 will permit an experienced scientist to pursue an innovative project in a critical area of neurobiological research.

» Why Become a Research Partner?
• When selecting a scientist, you may designate a particular area of interest from awards that have been approved by NARSAD's Scientific Council. For example, some current Research Partners are supporting genetic studies in schizophrenia, research on childhood depression, and projects investigating autism.

• Alternatively, you may select work being conducted in a particular geographic location or at a specific university. For example, many Research Partners choose to support their alma mater or a university or medical research center in their local community.

• You will receive progress reports and updates, and will receive public acknowledgement as a sponsor in the NARSAD Annual Report, Research Newsletter, and all published articles resulting from their grant.

• You may choose to correspond with your scientist, or visit him/her in the laboratory to see firsthand how your sponsorship is helping.

» Who Are the Typical Research Partners?
NARSAD's Research Partners are comprised of community groups, foundations, corporations, and friends and family members of people with psychiatric brain disorders. Though from diverse backgrounds, each person or group shares the same deep commitment to improve our understanding of psychiatric brain disorders. Some Research Partners choose to dedicate their donation as a memorial to family members or friends whose lives have been tragically cut short by psychiatric illness.
