Brief description of study:
Several types of treatments have been shown to relieve depression, including a different number of medications and psychotherapies (counseling approaches). Even though many of these treatments work, no one treatment works for everyone. Some people respond to one treatment, some to another. About half of the time, depressed people do not respond completely to their first treatment, a situation sometimes called "treatment resistant depression." The primary purpose of this research study is to examine how brain activity changes as people are treated with medication, and to determine how these changes relate to the response that people have to particular treatments.

Additional information:
There are several other clinical trials in the treatment for depression running at UCLA Depression Research Center and if one does not meet criteria for this particular study, he or she may be eligible to participate in another study. Please visit www.DepressionLA.com for more information or call 310.825.3351 to see if you or someone you know might be eligible to participate and receive free treatment for depression.
