» What is a NARSAD Volunteer?
Volunteers put energy and time where their beliefs lie, and enjoy the sense of teamwork needed to achieve a shared goal. The majority of NARSAD volunteers donate their time because they understand the magnitude of psychiatric disorders; they volunteer because they care and truly wish to make a contribution.

We need to let people know about NARSAD and the exciting, cutting-edge research that is being conducted by our scientists. We also need to show people why it is important for them to lend their financial support to help fund this research that will lead to discovering better treatments and potential cures for the devastating disorders that strike so many of our friends and family members.

» A NARSAD Volunteer Can Take Many Forms:
  • Organize a fundraising event in your area: Our volunteer information packet contains an extensive list of ideas for fundraising that you can organize in your community. Give us a call and we can put you in touch with other volunteers in your area who, like you, are looking to get more involved.

  • Host a parlor meeting: Parlor meetings & educational seminars are small, informational meetings hosted by regional volunteers, with a scientific speaker provided by NARSAD. They can be held either in your home or in another location such as a school, public library, community center, country club, etc.

  • Distribute educational materials to local organizations: Along with materials that introduce NARSAD and the work that we do, we have three educational brochures entitled ‘Understanding Schizophrenia’ (English & Spanish versions available), ‘Conquering Depression’ (English & Spanish versions available) and ‘Understanding Antipsychotic Medications’. We also print a quarterly newsletter that profiles NARSAD researchers and gives updates on research studies and new medications and treatments on the horizon.

  • Send us the names & addresses of people who might be interested in our organization: We will add them to our mailing list and see to it that they receive timely and relevant materials.

In addition, NARSAD volunteers often have their own creative ideas as to how they can be of assistance, which we are always anxious to hear.

You can join with people nationwide who are committed to NARSAD's mission to raise and distribute funds for scientific research into the causes, cures, treatments and prevention of brain disorders. NARSAD can provide flexible volunteer opportunities that accomplish the critical work of the organization.

Each of us can make a difference.
