5th Annual Mission Possible Symposium

Washington, DC

A free public symposium will take place on Sunday, March 30th, from 9am to 5pm, at George Washington University’s Lisner Auditorium,
730 21st Street, NW, Washington, D.C.

Darrel A. Regier, M.D., M.P.H., Executive Director of the American Psychiatric Institute for Research and Education will serve as moderator for the symposium. The morning session will be devoted to the assessment and treatment of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) in the military and the afternoon session will feature presentations on the latest advancements in research on schizophrenia, bipolar disorder & child and adolescent disorders.

The program has been approved for 6 hours of continuing education credits for social workers.

5th Annual Mission Possible Gala
Washington, DC


NARSAD’s annual Mission Possible Gala returns on Monday, April 21st, with an evening of dinner and entertainment at the Embassy of Sweden’s Sweden House.

The evening will feature the presentation of NARSAD’s Paul Wellstone Leadership Award to Joseph Greco, writer and director of the film Canvas, based on his personal experiences growing up with a schizophrenic mother; actor Joe Pantoliano, star of Canvas; and, Senators Mike Enzi (R-WY) and Ted Kennedy (D-MA), authors of the Senate mental health parity bill. The award was established in 2005 in memory of the late Minnesota senator Paul Wellstone and recognizes exemplary efforts on behalf of people suffering from mental illness. Previous recipients of the Wellstone Award include former First Lady Rosalynn Carter, Oregon’s Senator Gordon Smith, New Mexico’s Senator Pete Domenici the late columnist and humorist Art Buchwald and Rhode Island Congressman Patrick J. Kennedy.

The evening will also feature a raffle of spectacular jewelry by Adeler Jewelers, and an auction of museum-quality artwork created by and on behalf of those with mental illnesses.
