NARSAD, The World's Leading Charity Dedicated to Mental Health Research, can be a key resource for any stories you currently are covering, or planning to cover, on mental illness.

NARSAD provides research funding for the world’s leading scientific investigators of psychiatric disorders, in a quest to find the causes, better treatments and cures for mental illness. We can share with you the up-to-the moment research being conducted by NARSAD-supported scientists, and we can put you in touch with the experts most suited to provide background and commentary for the stories you’re working on.

  • NARSAD-affiliated scientists come from the fields of psychiatry, pharmacology, genetics, molecular biology, epidemiology and neuroscience.

  • Our experts include clinicians and basic scientists who are studying a wide range of disorders, including depression, bipolar disorder (manic-depressive illness), schizophrenia, anxiety disorders, eating disorders, autism and the full spectrum of childhood conditions. (Click here for a complete list of disorders being researched by NARSAD-supported scientists.)

  • Their studies are equally far-ranging, encompassing genetics, brain function and structure, medication action and effectiveness, novel forms of magnetic and electric stimulation, psychosocial treatment, uses of brain-imaging techniques, diagnostic tools, and epidemiology or disease distribution.

For assistance in planning and researching mental health stories, and for referrals to NARSAD research experts, please contact Kristen Simone, director of communications, at 516-829-0091, ext. 241.
