NARSAD Named One of Top Charities in U.S. by Worth Magazine

(Great Neck, NY- ) — The National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression (NARSAD), has been named one of "America's 100 Best Charities" by Worth magazine. The article is featured as the cover story of Worth's December issue.

The designation is quite an honor for NARSAD, according to Constance Lieber, the organization's president. The IRS recognizes more than 819,000 charities in the United States, with 45,000 new ones added in the past year alone. Worth says it investigated hundreds of charities and called on the expertise of dozens of philanthropy experts to determine which charities worked to achieve their goals with the skill, innovation, effectiveness and strategic insight that one would expect from a for-profit company that one would consider investing in. In addition, Worth looked at the charities' financial statements to see which ones are putting donors' money to work efficiently.

"We work hard to reach our goals and are most pleased to have achieved this recognition," said Constance Lieber, NARSAD President. "I hope that those who learn about NARSAD's excellent work through this survey will seek more information from us."

This isn't the first time NARSAD has been recognized as an outstanding organization. The Alliance is consistently awarded an A+ by the American Institute of Philanthropy, a charity watchdog group that grades not-for-profit organizations based on the amount they spend on programs as opposed to fund-raising and administrative costs. NARSAD allocates every penny of the money it raises to funding psychiatric research. All administrative and fund-raising costs are paid by two family foundations.
