NARSAD Raises Awareness with Public Service Announcement Airing on Long Island

(Great Neck, NY.- ) — The National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression has taken to the airwaves with the help of Cablevision. NARSAD teamed up with the Long Island cable provider to produce a public service announcement to raise awareness of mental illness. The message was that depression and other psychiatric disorders are true medical illnesses, and effective treatments are available. The spot gives NARSAD's phone number and web site address for more information. Cablevision produced the PSA and is airing it, at no charge to NARSAD, throughout its schedule of national and local program services. The 30-second spot is airing throughout November on twenty cable television stations on Long Island.

"Helping raise the profile of the valuable work performed in our community by organizations like the National Alliance for Research on Schizophrenia and Depression is an important part of Cablevision's role as Long Island's neighborhood communications company," said Joan Hendricks, Area Director of Political and Community Affairs.

"We are delighted and extremely grateful to Cablevision for giving us the opportunity to further our mission and raise awareness of mental illness," said Sharyn Perlman, who manages public relations for NARSAD and wrote the PSA. "We hope that anyone who sees the public service announcement will call NARSAD or log on to our web site, where a wealth of information is available."
