11th Annual Michigan Golf Classic
(Mt. Clemens, MI -
) — The 11th Annual Michigan NARSAD Golf Classic was held recently at the Gowanie Golf Club in Mt. Clemens, Michigan. Organized by long-time NARSAD Board Member Tom Coles, M.D., and NARSAD volunteer Peppino Puleo, this staple in the arsenal to help fight the battle against severe mental illness was a great success.
On a warm, sunny day, 72 golfers teed off to raise funds for NARSAD. After their stint on the links, participants enjoyed dinner as awards were given out to the men and women who shot closest to the pin and who hit the longest drives, courtesy of corporate sponsors.
Dr. Coles, whose eldest child has schizophrenia, and Mr. Puleo, whose brother also suffers from schizophrenia are active in both NARSAD and the local NAMI affiliate. Raising awareness and funds to help their loved ones is the fuel that energizes these dedicated men. In addition to organizing the golf classic, Dr. Coles rides in 100-mile bike marathons to raise money for NARSAD. His next venture will be in September.
