Alan's Walk
Preserving a Son's Memory

(Livingston, NJ - ) — When her son, Alan Dutka, committed suicide, Toby Serrouya decided that it wasn’t enough to only preserve his memory. She wanted to find a way to help NARSAD raise the public’s awareness about the devastating effects schizophrenia has not only on those with the disease, but on their families as well. Alan’s Walk was her answer.

The second annual Alan’s Walk was held on June 1, in Livingston, New Jersey. Jessica Lynch – a beauty queen who was then Miss Manhattan, but who has since been chosen as Miss New York for the Miss America pageant – was there to lend her support. Ms. Lynch’s platform is teen depression. She knows. She has suffered from severe bouts of depression, some requiring hospitalization. “My goal is to educate the public concerning depression and to help stamp out the stigma and negative connotations associated with it,” said Ms. Lynch.
