Schizophrenia Research Forum Celebrates Exciting First Year!
Online resource for scientists and the public is a forum for discussion about schizophrenia
(Great Neck, NY -
) — The Schizophrenia Research Forum celebrates one year online! In the past year, SRF has been working hard to fulfill its mission to help researchers better understand the causes of schizophrenia and to develop improved treatments for the condition.
The web site is sponsored by NARSAD: The Mental Health Research Association through a contract with the National Institute of Mental Health. Although SRF’s content is primarily meant for scientists, it also provides information for mental health practitioners and the general public. This service is free of charge to all users.
With more than 1,000 scientists and hundreds of clinicians and other mental health practitioners registered, SRF has succeeded in its goal to become an international online forum where research ideas are routinely presented and discussed. In its first year online, SRF has become a well-known entity in the community of mental illness research. Currently, it boasts:
- 1,650+ members, of whom 1,100+ are researchers, from 64 different countries
- 69 news stories
- 310 comments on research articles
- 37,000+ citations in SRF Papers database (2000 – present)
- Three Live Online Discussions with a total of 80 attendees
- Four Journal Discussions in collaboration with Schizophrenia Bulletin and Schizophrenia Research
- Two interviews with prominent schizophrenia researchers
- Three Current Hypothesis papers
- 70 Job Listings
In the next year, SRF plans to increase news coverage and the number of live discussions and interviews it hosts. In early 2007, SRF will unveil SchizophreniaGene, which will be a continuously updated database of gene association studies relevant to schizophrenia, searchable by a number of parameters and containing a meta-analysis feature.
