NARSAD is leading the fight against mental illness by funding innovative scientific research on the causes, treatment and prevention of a range of mental disorders, including schizophrenia, depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety, eating disorders, autism, ADD/ADHD, and other adult and childhood disorders. If you have questions about any of these conditions, their symptoms, available treatments, and recent research relating to them, visit the Disorders & Conditions area of our website. We began in 1987 as a movement of family and friends of the mentally ill determined to find the answers to mental illness. (Read more about our history). In just 20 years, through the generosity and commitment of thousands of donors around the country, NARSAD has provided $215 million in research grants to 2,477 scientists at 415 leading research centers in the United States and 25 other countries. These scientists, who represent some of the greatest talents at work today on this issue, are conducting promising research leading to breakthroughs in the understanding and treatment of numerous disorders. Be sure to visit our homepage regularly to read our top research stories about some of the latest findings by NARSAD-supported scientists. For its accomplishments and the importance of its mission, NARSAD was recently recognized by USA Today as one of 25 U.S.-based charities “closest to the hearts of Americans.” This special recognition coincides with USA Today’s 25th anniversary celebration, the centerpiece of which is its “Spirit of the USA” charity program. Read more about the program and how NARSAD is being highlighted by USA Today. We’re pleased to announce that as part of this special opportunity with USA Today, the principals of Alpine Mutual Funds, who are long-time supporters of NARSAD, have pledged $1 million to match contributions received dollar for dollar. You can donate now to increase funding for critical research on mental illnesses and have your gift doubled by this special match. Or, if you need to know more before making a contribution, we’d like to share some of our most compelling reasons why you should give to NARSAD. Please don’t hesitate to write or call us to learn how you can become more involved with NARSAD and join us in our efforts to find the answers to mental illness. |
