For immediate release By Erin Kello/MutualFundWire.com NARSAD's goal is to support scientific research in order to find better treatment for, and one day even prevent, mental illness. In an interview, Lieber said he got involved with Great Neck, New York-based NARSAD because one of his children was diagnosed with a mental illness. Geoff Birkett, president of NARSAD, said the organization has awarded a total of $215 million in grants to scientists since its inception about 20 years ago. NARSAD was recently chosen by USA Today as "one of the 25 charities closest to Americans' hearts." All new contributions made to NARSAD, up to a total of $1 million, made by September 17, 2007, will be matched by the managers of Alpine Funds. Alpine Funds was established in 1998 and currently has $13 billion AUM. |
