Michal Lavidor, Ph.D.
Independent Investigator
Michal Lavidor is currently an associate professor in the Department of Psychology and the Gonda Multidisciplinary Brain Research Center, at Bar Ilan University, Israel. Professor Lavidor received her BSc degree in Computer Science and Psychology from the Hebrew University, and later completed a master degree and a Ph.D. in Experimental Psychology in Bar Ilan University.
Professor Lavidor was recently awarded the 2006 European Commission Marie Curie Excellence Award for outstanding research. Lavidor's research is focused on understanding what is going on in the brain when we read and process language. In particular, the dynamic balance between the two hemispheres in processing language is of interest, and research methods include traditional Cognitive Psychology methods as well as applying Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) to manipulate hemispheric roles in processing written and spoken language. Complementary studies are conducted with populations with atypical lateralization patterns, such as individuals with Schizophrenia, aiming to improve their cognitive functioning.
