Roger S. McIntyre, M.D., FRCPC

Roger S. McIntyre, M.D., FRCPC
Independent Investigator

Dr. Roger McIntyre is currently Associate Professor of Psychiatry and Pharmacology at the University of Toronto and Head of the Mood Disorders Psychopharmacology Unit at the University Health Network, Toronto, Canada. Dr. McIntyre completed his medical degree and undergraduate science degree at Dalhousie University in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. Dr. McIntyre is involved in multiple research endeavours which primarily aim to characterize the association between glucose homeostasis, medical comorbidity, and neurocognition.

Dr. McIntyre is a recipient of the NARSAD 2007 Independent Investigator Award. His study aims to evaluate and tolerability of Intranasal Insulin for neurocognitive deficits in euthymic individuals with Major Depressive Disorder. This study represents a companion to a separate study which is evaluating the identical intervention in euthymic individuals with Bipolar Disorder, that study is supported by the Stanley Medical Research Institute. This intervention study is based on the principal that Insulin is salient to normal and abnormal central nervous functioning. It is hoped that the infusion of Insulin directly to the central nervous system would be beneficial as evinced by measures of cognitive function.
