Young Investigator

Paola Salvatore, MD, was born in Parma (Italy) on December 4th 1964. She graduated in Medicine and Surgery at the University of Parma (Italy) on July 11th 1989 with first class honors discussing a thesis in psychiatry on biological basis of suicide. After having attended the School of Psychiatry at the University of Parma (Italy) as a resident for four years, on October 7th 1993 she became psychiatrist cum laude presenting a dissertation on the historical evolution of the concept of bipolar mixed states. Since then she has been working as a Research Fellow and Instructor in Psychiatry at the Psychiatric Clinic of the University of Parma. Since November 2000 she has been also working at McLean Hospital (Harvard Medical School) as a Visiting Research Fellow in Psychiatry. In December 2002 she has been appointed Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at the Department of Neuroscience of the University of Parma (Italy).
Dr. Salvatore’s current research is focused on the study of early psychopathological phenomenology and initial symptomatic and then syndromal onset of initial lifetime episodes of psychotic illness, as well as the timing of clinical assessments and therapeutic interventions, and their relationship to stability of diagnosis, subsequent syndromal, subsyndromal morbidity, and comorbidity, course and long-term outcome.
