Janet Alder, Ph.D.
Young Investigator
Dr. Janet Alder received her B.S. from Stanford University and her Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1994 where she studied the role of synaptic vesicle proteins in neurotransmitter release with Dr. Mu-ming Poo as a National Science Foundation Predoctoral Fellow. She then went to the laboratory of Mary E. Hatten at Rockefeller University to examine the mechanisms cerebellar granule cell fate specification as a Damon Runyon-Walter Winchell Foundation Postdoctoral Fellow. She then began as an Instructor in the Department of Neuroscience and Cell Biology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey - Robert Wood Johnson Medical School with Dr. Ira Black studying the genomic regulation of neurotrophin-enhanced synaptic plasticity. She also became interested in the role of neurotrophins in depression for which she was granted the Southwest Florida NARSAD Young Investigator Award in 2000. Dr. Alder is currently Assistant Professor at UMDNJ – RWJ and is investigating the regulation and role of neuropeptides induced downstream of neurotrophins in depression.
