Christine Andrews, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2002) of University of Oregon, will study the subtle changes in the expression of several genes and proteins that results in schizophrenia at both the single cell and regional level in post mortem brain tissue from schizophrenic patients. By targeting various brain regions and cell types Dr.Andrews will be able to determine if changes in mRNA levels correspond to changes in protein. The overall goal will be to obtain a genomic and proteomic “fingerprint” for schizophrenia, which may increase understanding of the disease and allow for early diagnosis and treatment. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
