Claudia F. Baldassano, M.D. (Young Investigator 2003) of University of Pennsylvania, is assessing the risk of osteoporosis in bipolar women taking antiepileptic drugs that have been associated with bone mineral loss. Bone mineral density will be measured in 20 women with Bipolar Type I Disorder who have been taking at least 1 antiepileptic medication for at least 6 months and compared to 20 normal controls matched for age, body-mass index, menopausal status and race.
