Miki Bloch, M.D. (Independent Investigator 2007) of Sourasky Tel Aviv Medical Center, Tel Aviv University, will investigate a possible new treatment for postpartum depression. Postpartum depression, which affects 10 to 20 percent of women after childbirth, is usually treated with psychotherapy alone. Dr. Bloch proposes to study the efficacy of adding the antidepressant sertraline in the treatment of women with moderate postpartum depression without suicidal ideation. In the trial, patients will receive psychotherapy with sertraline or with placebo. Dr. Bloch hypothesizes that those receiving psychotherapy plus sertraline will show a greater response rate than those in the placebo group or in a group receiving psychotherapy alone. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Unipolar\Postpartum Depression |
