Victor Gerard Carrion, M.D. (Young Investigator 2000) of Stanford University, is working to identify brain function traits that help distinguish children with, or at high risk of developing, posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). For this purpose, children with PTSD and controls will be evaluated with functional MRI (fMRI) to examine the function of specific brain regions. The fMRI findings will then be correlated with the three symptom clusters which characterize PTSD (re-experience, avoidance, and hyperarousal). This work should help to identify brain circuits and their altered function which underlies the symptoms of PTSD. Program Area: ANXIETY DISORDERS\Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) |
