Kim M. Dalton, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of the University of Wisconsin, Madison, seeks to explore autonomic responses and brain function in individuals with autism while doing an attention-demanding task. Dr. Dalton will investigate these processes and brain activation in the underlying cortical and subcortical areas associated at rest and during an attention-demanding task in individuals with autism compared to typically developing control individuals. Abnormalities in both the structure and function of all of these brain areas, particularly the amygdala, have been implicated in the social/emotional deficits associated with autism. Program Area: PERVASIVE DEVELOPMENTAL DISORDERS |
