Gabriel Alejandro de Erausquin, M.D., Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of Washington University School of Medicine, has identified a population of patients with schizophrenia that are neuroleptic naïve and have shown that parkinsonism and its associated deficits have characteristics of an endophenotype in first-degree relatives. Dr. de Erausquin proposes to study the dopaminergic network of these neuroleptic naïve patients, their first-degree relatives, and culturally appropriate controls. In the second stage of his project, he will carry out genetic studies using imaging-based anatomic changes in the dopaminergic system as a possible marker of risk. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS |
