Lev Gertsik, M.D. (Young Investigator 2002) of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, will explore the use of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PuFAs) as an augmentation strategy for the treatment of treatment-resistant unipolar major depression. Recent studies indicate that dietary intake of PuFAs may be related to depression, and the administration of PuFAs might reduce depressive symptomatology. Dr. Gertsik will attempt to demonstrate that dietary PuFA administration in combination with the antidepressant citalopram will improve treatment outcome in treatment-resistant unipolar major depression. The results may yield a new important alternative approach. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Depression (Unipolar)\Major Depressive Disorder (MDD) |
