Sonia Goulet, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2000) of Laval University, is investigating the performance and behaviors of rats treated with PCP (angel dust) in specific behavioral tasks. Previous work suggests that PCB is a potent trigger for the induction of positive and negative symptoms of schizophrenia. The project is based on the finding that schizophrenic patients with negative symptoms are impaired when actions are self-generated but behave normally when explicitly instructed to perform a similar set of actions. This study may answer questions regarding the negative symptomatology of schizophrenia using a novel approach. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
