Handan Gunduz-Bruce, M.D. (Young Investigator 2003) of Hillside Hospital, is investigating augmentation strategies for clozapine-resistant schizophrenia. Dr. Gunduz-Bruce will conduct a double-blind placebo controlled trial of clozapine augmentation with pimozide (a conventional antipsychotic). Pimozide is a promising candidate due to its potent D2 blocking property as well as favorable side effect profile. Patients currently receiving clozapine with an adequate blood level who continue to experience positive symptoms will be eligible for the 12 week study. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia\Pharmacology |
