David C. Henderson, M.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of Massachusetts General Hospital, is assessing whether patients with quetiapine have abnormalities in glucose metabolism. Previous work suggests that clozapine may increase the risk of diabetes and impair insulin sensitivity. In the present study, schizophrenia patients treated with quetiapine will be compared with medication-free patients with regard to glucose tolerance, and multiple risk factors for diabetes will be examined. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
