David C. Henderson, M.D. (Young Investigator 2003) of Massachusetts General Hospital, is studying atypical antipsychotic agents (such as clozapine and olanzapine) that have recently been linked to diabetic ketoacidosis and Type 2 diabetes in patients with schizophrenia. Dr. Henderson will conduct an eight-week, double blind, placebo controlled study of rosiglitazone to see whether it improves the insulin sensitivity and glucose utilization associated with clozapine. Multiple risk factors for diabetes will also be examined. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
