Uriel Heresco-Levy, M.D. (Independent Investigator 2003) of Hebrew University, notes that Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a prevalent, serious condition and is often treatment resistant and chronic. Several drugs have been beneficial, but currently there is not a definitive medicine for PTSD. Historically, the functions of the neurotransmitters norepinephrine and serotonin were studied in PTSD, but Dr. Hereseco-Levy will focus on a different neurotransmitter, glutamate, which may offer an additional treatment approach, and may be especially relevant for the cognitive deficits, such as attention, memory, learning, and the avoidance numbness of PTSD. Program Area: ANXIETY DISORDERS\Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) |
