James Knowles, M.D., Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of New York State Psychiatric Institute, will attempt to identify and locate genetic risk factors for obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD). He will use a highly genetically homogeneous population, the Afrikaners of South Africa. DNA will be collected from 180 individuals of Afrikaner descent over two years. These samples will be used to screen the DNA for potential genes that cause OCD. This work may lead to the identification of a gene for this anxiety disorder. Program Area: ANXIETY DISORDERS\Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) |
