Claudine Laurent, M.D., Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of Pitie-Salpetriere Hospital, will seek to advance the application of proteomics, the study of protein function and interaction, to research on complex brain disorders, including schizophrenia. This goal stems from the idea that to understand the role of genes involved in disease it is necessary to identify the networks of proteins with which they interact. As models, Dr. Laurent and her group will isolate two critical, interacting proteins, neuregulin-1 and neuregulin-2, in the hippocampus and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex, brain areas thought to be involved in schizophrenia. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
