Todd Lencz, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of Long Island Jewish Medical Center, will examine brain structure in adolescent patients at high risk for schizophrenia prior to the diagnosis. It is hypothesized that, compared to matched controls, these subjects will exhibit larger cerebral ventricles, decreased gray matter in the cortex, and reduced hippocampal volume. The proposed study will capitalize on a unique sample of high risk patients assess primary structural brain abnormalities in schizophrenia.
