Carol Mathews, M.D. (Young Investigator 2002) of University of California, San Diego, will study Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) in a genetically isolated population in the Central Valley of Costa Rica. Individuals with early-onset OCD will be examined for susceptibility genes, as it is possible that more than one gene may be important in determining susceptibility to OCD in a given individual, and that non-genetic factors may also influence expression of the disorder. Identifying susceptibility genes for OCD may increase accurate diagnoses, understanding of OCD and improvements in treatments for the disorder. Program Area: ANXIETY DISORDERS\Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD)\Child/Adolescent |
