Tanya K. Murphy, M.D. (Independent Investigator 2007) of the University of Florida, hypothesizes that onset of a neuropsychiatric disorder in a previously well-functioning child may be precipitated by infection. She proposes a double-blind placebo-controlled investigation to evaluate the efficacy of antibiotic therapy on symptom severity for children ages 4-13 years with dramatic onset of less than 6 months duration of Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD), anxiety and/or tic disorders. The primary goal is a 10-week, double blind-random assignment acute efficacy study comparing an antibiotic (cefdinir, treatment dose based on weight range) to a placebo with a secondary goal to ascertain the typical duration of treatment necessary until symptom improvement and evaluate for predictors of response. Program Area: ANXIETY DISORDERS\Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) |
