Yuval Neria, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2003) of New York State Psychiatric Institute, is investigating major depression and Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) following exposure to the World Trade Center attacks. Dr. Neria will gather detailed data regarding background, trauma exposure, and pre- and post-exposure psychopathology in a systematic sample of 1,000 primary care patients in Manhattan. The goal of the study is to examine whether exposure to psychological trauma leads to major depressive disorder independent of the development of PTSD.
