Michael W. Otto, Ph.D. (Independent Investigator 2001) of Massachusetts General Hospital, will conduct a pilot study to determine the efficacy of cognitive processing therapy (CPT) for rape victims with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). Bipolar populations are often characterized by high rates of PTSD, and drug treatments for PTSD are somewhat limited, as they may be contraindicated when an antidepressant is also being taken. This study will assess PTSD symptom severity and the impact of the treatment (CPT) on reducing the frequency and duration of the bipolar episodes of participants. This study hopes to expand treatment options for women with bipolar disorder and PTSD. Program Area: MOOD DISORDERS\Bipolar |
