Isabel Perez-Otano, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2000) of Duke University, is studying the mechanisms that control the expression and function of a glutamate receptor subunit called NR3A. Previous suggest abnormalities of a specific type of glutamate receptor called NMDA in schizophrenia. The interaction of NR3A with two associated proteins will be characterized in order to determine how they modify the function of NMDA receptors containing the NR3A subunit. This study could have implications for elaborating the biochemical abnormalities underlying schizophrenia. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
