Kristen J. Prentice, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2002) of Maryland Psychiatric Research Center, will employ methods to assess risk perception, judgment and decision-making that have long been used with non-schizophrenic populations on a sample of schizophrenic patients. Healthy subjects demonstrated a bias known as Unrealistic Optimism, in that they are poor judges of their own risk levels. However, it has been shown it is possible to reduce this bias. Dr. Prentice will try to determine if schizophrenic patients demonstrate risk perception biases similar to healthy controls, and if their biases respond to the same manipulations. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia\Informed Consent |
