Sagiv Shifman, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2008) of Hebrew University of Jerusalem, proposes to examine reelin expression patterns, including splicing variants, in postmortem brain tissues from schizophrenia patients as well as unaffected controls. In addition Dr. Shifman will type genetic variants within the reelin gene using DNA from those samples. By correlating expression with DNA polymorphisms he will be able to identify genetic variants influencing the regulation of the gene. The result should improve our understanding of the reasons for reduced expression of reelin in schizophrenia and the genetic cause of schizophrenia and other neuropsychiatric disorders. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS |
