Jordan W. Smoller, M.D, ScD (Young Investigator 2002) of Massachusetts General Hospital, will examine heritable temperamental traits that may be early expressions of the liability to major depressive disorder (MDD). Behavioral inhibition (BI) is a trait characterized by shyness and behavioral restraint in unfamiliar situations. Dr. Rosenbaum will attempt to search for genes involved in MDD by identifying the genetic basis of BI. Understanding the role genes play in MDD may lead to important advances in treatment and prevention. Program Area: MULTIPLE FOCUS AREAS\Major Depression/Anxiety Disorder |
