Dawn Thiselton, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2003) of Virginia Commonwealth University, will investigate the role of genes involved in a disorder called retinitis pigmentosa in schizophrenia. A deletion that is associated with this severe eye disorder has been found in a genetic region linked with schizophrenia. The role of these genes in schizophrenia will be examined by assessing familial cases and controls for this deletion and conducting analyses aimed at associating variants in deleted genes with the disorder. In addition, the deleted genes will be fully characterized with regard to their organization and expression. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
