Mark P. Thomas, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of University of Nebraska, aims to determine the cellular mechanisms by which drugs called NMDA receptor non-competitive antagonists cause behaviors and symptoms similar to schizophrenia. This class of drugs includes PCP and some other hallucinogens. This work may lead to new insights into the adaptive mechanisms that occur during the onset of the symptoms of schizophrenia, and may also lead to the development of more effective medications. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
