John B. Vincent, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2000) of University of Toronto, is attempting to identify susceptibility genes for autism. Previous genetic studies suggest that a gene for autism may lie on a region of chromosome 7. Identifying a susceptibility gene would require narrowing down this region to a handful of candidate genes. A number of autism patients have been identified who have chromosome breakages within this region. Dr. Vincent will localize the breakpoints of these chromosome anomalies in order to pinpoint the potential susceptibility genes for autism. Program Area: PERVASIVE DEVELOPMENTAL DISORDERS\Autism |
