Tom Walsh, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of the University of Washington, seeks to better understand alterations in DISC1 and PDE4B genes in a young schizophrenic patient who has inherited chromosomal translocations. Research has shown that inherited translocation caused disruption in these genes that are found to be important in schizophrenia. The young woman inherited the translocation from her father who has been mentally impaired for more than 30 years. Results of Dr. Walsh’s study could provide new understanding in the causes of schizophrenia. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
