Cynthia Shannon Weickert, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2001) of National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH/NIH), will test if the estrogen binding potential is altered in patients with schizophrenia. Estrogen influences age of onset, symptom severity, and prevalence of neuropsychiatric disorders. This hormone exerts a potent influence on brain function. She will also conduct comparative studies of estrogen binding across animal species to enable the development of a method to image estrogen in the living brain. Program Area: SCHIZOPHRENIA/PSYCHOTIC DISORDERS\Schizophrenia |
