Lixia Zhao, Ph.D. (Young Investigator 2007) of Emory University, will study the potential roles of the selective RNA-binding protein QKI in schizophrenia. Dr. Zhao hypothesizes that reduced QKI plays key roles in the illness and may be an underlying factor for the defects in myelin gene expression in schizophrenia. By uncovering the function of QKI, results from Dr. Zhao’s research could provide critical information of normal brain function and impact the pathogenesis of schizophrenia.
